SAEM23 Consensus Conference on Precision Emergency Medicine
The 2023 SAEM Consensus Conference concluded May 16, 2023.
Precision emergency medicine is the purposeful use of big data and technology to safely, efficiently, and authentically deliver acute care for individual patients and their communities.
Advances in health technology and data science offer emergency physicians the ability to individualize patient care and improve the health of local communities.
However, most emergency providers are unfamiliar with new data sources, how to interpret them, and how to modify their clinical practices accordingly.
And precision emergency medicine could exacerbate health disparities for women and minorities through biased data interpretation, limited access, and lack of trust in providers.
Research is needed to understand how to best implement precision emergency medicine in an effective and equitable manner.
The 2023 Consensus Conference will explore the opportunities, implementation, ethics, and patient outcomes of Precision Emergency Medicine.
The result: a 10-year health services research agenda.
Areas of Focus
Biomedical Ethics
-Omics
Data Science
Health Professions Education
Healthcare Delivery Systems & Access to Care
Informatics
Population Health & Social Emergency Medicine
Sex and Gender
Technology & Digital Tools
Attendees will have the opportunity to actively share expertise in three working sessions throughout the day. Each area of focus will have a group leader who has spent months culling literature to develop topics and questions to guide the discussions.
In between working sessions, participants will hear from thought leaders (please see below).
The results will guide the Precision Emergency Medicine research agenda for the next ten years and be featured in publications and conferences.
Working Session 1:
Research Incubator
Working Session 2:
Cross Pollination of Ideas
Working Session 3:
